Fathers' Day 2010

Cory said he had a nice Fathers' Day. I tried my hardest to compete with Mothers' Day - he made it SO nice for me. We had a special treat - getting to babysit Zoe too! She was such a joy to have around and Carson enjoyed playing with her.

I made strawberry pancakes and bacon for Cory and the 4 of us all ate breakfast together. Then while the babies played I started the roast that we had for dinner. I also made banana pudding...yum! Becca and Zach came over to get Zoe around lunch and we all enjoyed some time outside with Cory's new horshoe set that he got for Fathers' Day. It was a great day, Cory WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH, thanks for being the best Da-Da there is!

Laboring before Cesarean

When I initially started my childbirth research, I found that laboring is good for babies (something my Dr. left out when he informed me that I needed a c-section). It triggers needed hormones for bonding, breastfeeding, and breathing to name a few. I had stated in a previous post that even though I am spending so much time doing all of this research to educate myself on my choices, what is it all worth if I just end up with a c-section in the end anyway? Answer: the next time I will KNOW that I did everything in my power to prevent a c-section, and even a labor that ends in c-section is much better than a scheduled repeat cesarean (unless someone has major health issues, for example some people with heart conditions are not advised to attempt labor, or any other extreme situations, etc..). Here is a helpful link to provide more info on this topic:

ALSO: I read the most interesting book last week: "Birth" by Tina Cassidy. Its all about the history of anything and everything about birth from the evolution of the woman's body to how OB's came to be, to the development and use of drugs during labor, to the violent attempts to extract a stuck fetus...you name it. And MAINLY it explained why there is such a FEAR stigma associated with birth. There were so many things that Dr.'s unknowingly did to cause death in childbirth back then....and now society has conditioned us to fear birth. I highly recommend this book for anyone who plans to give birth in the future.

The next book on my list is "Your Best Birth" by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein who produced the Business of Being born documentary.

Business of Being Born...

I realized after I posted my last post, I put the wrong clip of Business of Being Born, the other one is relevant but this one below really compelled me to watch this film. Cory and I watched it together and it changed his entire outlook on the "hospital process" as well.

If you are interested....

This post is not about what I think women "should do"...its about the fact that I wish I was informed before I had my first baby. So here is some helpful information if anyone wants to inform themselves on choices in childbirth.

This is part of my "getting the word out" promise, and to provide some insight as to why I want a VBAC:

Here are a few clips for anyone who is pregnant or who plans to have children....

10 months old

Wow! What a big boy Carson has become :) He amazes us everyday and we love him so much. I am always telling Cory about smart things he does and Cory says "why are you so surprised he is smart" I am not really surprised, just excited and very proud.

Even still I hate leaving him everyday, it really hurts being away from him so much, and now that I see how much he has grown so fast, and that his "baby days" will be behind us very soon, its killing me.

He has learned so many things this past month:
  • He can go from sitting to standing on his own.
  • He has taken a few steps on his own.
  • He waves Bye-Bye.
  • He still loves his hair being combed; he knows what the comb and brush do..he places the brush on his head when he plays with it...so sweet.
  • He plays peek-a-boo with his hands or other objects. It is so cute how he thinks a tiny block "hides" him. He knows exactly what to do when we say "where's Carson?"
  • He says Uh-oh and Da-Da when we say it. He won't say Mama, he just laughs at me when I tell him to say it.
  • He hates having his diaper/clothes changed.
  • He has started to throw toys, etc...out of his pack-n-play and crib.
  • He has almost outgrown his 9 month clothing and fits better in the 12 month size.
  • He tries all types of table food.
  • He eats his star puffs like a champ! He is pretty good at feeding himself that and other finger foods.
  • It is strange to think that we have to wean him from formula and a bottle in just 2 months.
  • When he takes his bottle, he is constantly grabbing my face, nose, lips, hair, earrings, etc...Its like he is making sure I am real.
  • He will randomly sleep all night in his crib, but whenever he does wake up, we just plop him in our bed so we all can get some sleep. I love snuggling with him.
  • He loves loves loves Dinosaur Train (PBS show), he smiles and "dances" when he hears the intro music.
  • He likes any toy these days and he constantly pushes his toys around the floor...even his passy...ick! He loves blocks (more like knocking blocks over, every time I stack them he HAS TO knock them down, he can't stand it)
  • He had his 1st pool experience and loved it, he likes to kick in the water and be swirled around to make waves.
  • He is getting better but still hasn't mastered the sippy cup (mainly my fault for being inconsistent with it), he just wants to chew on it. But I have sent a sippy cup to daycare for him to use there and maybe they can work some magic.
  • He thinks it is so funny when you put a toy or any object on top of his head.
  • He loves to "run away" (crawls really fast) from us when we come around a corner to chase him, he laughs and laughs as he crawls to get away, it is so funny!
  • As soon as I undress him for his bath, he bolts into the living room, like he has to go show someone that he is naked. Last night, after he bolted, he peed on the floor! It was hilarious.
  • He loves baths, just not being bathed. He doesn't want anything in the way of his playing and exploring.
  • He got a swing set this weekend, and loves to swing. I love going outside after dinner to swing him before bath time.
  • He is into EVERYTHING! I can't take my eye off of him for a second!
  • He knows what "no" means and what "eh eh" means. He stops what he is doing immediately when I say either.
  • He has one little tooth, and he loves to stick his tongue out to feel it.

This is just before he opens the cabinet, and you can see he is feeling of his tooth.

Riding the police car at Nana's, he liked to "boogie" on that thing, he was adorable.

Standing all on his own.

Sitting on the slide at Nana's

You can see his little tooth in this one :)

First time in his swing.

Memorial Day Weekend

We had such a nice time this past weekend. We stayed with Nana and Papa, and got to visit with my brother, SIL and niece, they cooked some great food - shrimp boil! YUM.

This was Carson's first experience with the pool, and he loved it. He was so relaxed in the water. He looked so cute in his swim suit.

While we were there he decided to give walking a try...yes WALKING. He took 3 steps by himself on Friday, every now and then he will give it a try, so I guess it won't be long before he is a walker. :) I am so proud of my baby.

Carson got to play with his cousin Alivia (I didn't get any pics of her sadly, but she was so precious), and he made a couple of new friends, Carys and Sawyer (My friend Alison's children). I got to catch up with Alison, it was so nice to see her in person and meet her beautiful kids. Thanks for coming over Ali, we had a blast!

We ended the weekend at Crystal and Riley's for a BBQ with them and Cyndee and Dan. We got to play with Anna Riley - such a sweet baby girl! I had so much fun being "back home".

Here are a few pics:
